Behavior: Inappropriate responses, blurting out, answers before appropriate

Stratedy:

Seat student close to teacher

State what behavior you want

Tell student what you want

 

Behavior: Agitation under pressure

Strategy:

Stress effort and enjoyment

 

Encourage journals to express feelings

Minimize timed activities

Encourage team efforts

 

Behavior: Inattention

Strategy:

Get attention before giving directions

 

Use clear language

Check for understanding of directions

Use small group experiences

Actively involve students in lessons

Allow reasonable breaks

Check seating arrangements

 

Behavior: Difficulty in participating

Strategy:

Chart behaviors (times, antecedents)

Have classroom rules

Use good role models near problem

Reward good behavior

Give a lot of positive, sincere feedback

Ignore minor behavior

Use redirection strategies

Give student a responsible, structured job

Talk with student individually

Structure activities for success

Ask students questions that you know they can answer

Train student to self-monitor

Give positive recognition

 

Behavior: Difficulty using unstructured time

Strategy:

Give student a measure of control

Provide student with a definite purpose during these times and review options
